Bürogebäude am Sandtorkai, Hamburg 2001

Office building Am Sandtorkai, Hamburg 2001

The new quarter Am Sandtorkai is the first object with a mixture of residential and office buildings to be realised. The access to the building takes place on two levels via a communal foyer. The organically shaped core is a reference to the warehouse buildings with their winches and the steel cranes from the subsequent period. The brick found in the Speicherstadt is interpreted in a contemporary manner with curtain walls in the form of carpets of brick framed with steel. A modest homage has been made to the historical glazed brick patterns. By innovatively transforming striking elements taken from this context, an autonomous object that is rooted in its location is created.
