Living at the Speicherstadt

Sixty-three new apartments provide for a vibrant mix of uses in this listed warehouse district. All the apartments. the majority of whose living spaces are open-plan, are oriented to the south. Changes made to the building’s original structure are not visible from the street. The interior spatial arrangement corresponds to the load-bearing structure. This was retained and, wherever possible. exposed so as to highlight the site’s original identity. The building’s emergency escape route was conceived as a tunnel. so as to avoid marring the facade.
