Crematorium Am Hörnli, Basel 2012

The new structure inscribes itself harmoniously in the lines of the mortuary building. Its square ground plan solidly marks the southeast corner of the facility without obscuring the axis of the Hirtenweg path, which offers a view of the landscape. The furnaces are integrated in a way such that the overall effect is of a minimalist, opaque sculpture. The path through fire is staged as the path to eternal light.
